The Sugarland Ethno-History Project was established to document the historical community started by freed slaves. Our goal is to create an archive type museum to document genealogy of members of this Montgomery County Afro-American community from slavery to the present day. We wish to create an outreach program for students and the general public to learn more about the African-American experience of transitioning from slavery to freedom. This web site was established as a resource for people to learn how to document their history and how to create a data base for tracking their genealogy. This corporation is a non-profit organization organized exclusively for charitable, faith based and educational purposes. This project is exempt from Federal income tax under section 501(c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Contributions to this organization are deductible under section 170 of the code. We are qualified to receive tax deductible bequests, devises, transfers or gifts under section 2005, 2106 or 2522 of the code.
